Spinal Flow

Gentle, hands-on support to release tension, regulate your nervous system, and reconnect with your body.

Our bodies carry the effects of everything we move through. Chronic stress, emotional overwhelm, physical pain, and past experiences can leave the nervous system in a prolonged state of protection. Over time, this can show up as persistent tension, anxiety, fatigue, difficulty relaxing, or feeling disconnected from yourself and your body.

Spinal Flow is a gentle, non-invasive, light-touch practice that works with specific points along the spine to support the body's natural capacity for relaxation and regulation. By creating space for the nervous system to settle, it offers an opportunity to soften physical tension, develop greater body awareness, and reconnect with a sense of ease and safety within yourself.

Chronic stress and anxiety
Feeling constantly on edge, overwhelmed, or unable to switch off.

Trauma and prolonged stress responses

Chronic pain and physical tension
Persistent tightness, discomfort, or difficulty relaxing the body.

Nervous system dysregulation

Fatigue and difficulty resting
Struggling to unwind, settle into sleep, or feel restored.

Emotional overwhelm and disconnection
Difficulty recognizing, feeling, or staying present with emotions and bodily sensations.

A gentle way back to your body

For those with a history of trauma, the body hasn't always felt like a safe place to be. Reconnecting with physical sensations and emotions can take time, and trying to do too much too quickly can feel overwhelming.

Spinal Flow offers a gentle way to begin rebuilding that relationship. Through connection, supportive touch, and a pace that honours your body's capacity, we create an environment where your nervous system can begin to settle.

There's no pressure to revisit painful experiences, force an emotional release, or push beyond what feels comfortable. Instead, we allow space for the body to respond naturally, building greater awareness, trust, and connection along the way.

How Spinal Flow works

Developed by Dr. Carli Axford, the Spinal Flow Technique uses gentle contact at specific access points along the spine and body. Within the technique, these areas are organized into seven gateways, providing a framework for understanding patterns of tension and guiding each session.

Rather than using forceful adjustments or manipulation, the practice focuses on light touch, relaxation, and awareness of the body's responses.

Every experience is different. Some clients describe deeper breathing, a sense of calm, spontaneous movement, or emotional shifts during their sessions. Others simply notice that they feel more grounded, relaxed, or connected to themselves.

The intention isn't to force the body to change, but to create the conditions where it can begin to soften, settle, and reconnect at its own pace.

What to expect

Sessions take place in person in Langley, BC, in a calm, supportive environment where we move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Your first session: approximately 60 minutes

We'll begin with a conversation about your health history, what brings you in, and what you're hoping to experience through our work together. I'll assess your posture and the gateways of your spine before guiding you through your first Spinal Flow session.

This initial time together also allows us to establish connection, discuss your comfort with touch, and create a foundation for our work.

Follow-up sessions: approximately 30 minutes

You'll remain fully clothed, typically lying face down on a treatment table, while I use gentle contacts along the spine and body.

Sessions are guided by your individual responses, with space to notice physical sensations, emotions, or shifts in how you're feeling.

How often should you come?

Everyone responds differently. For those beginning Spinal Flow, I often suggest starting with two sessions per week, then adjusting the frequency as we observe how your body responds and what feels supportive for you.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach, and we'll determine a rhythm of care that aligns with your needs and goals.

Supporting your whole self

Spinal Flow can be experienced as a standalone practice or alongside counselling.

While counselling offers space to explore emotions, experiences, and relationship patterns, Spinal Flow provides an additional opportunity to develop body awareness, experience supportive touch, and reconnect with physical sensations.

You don't need to participate in counselling to book a Spinal Flow session. Each service is available independently, with the option to explore an integrated approach when appropriate.
